A Fate Unwinding

When recent divorcée Juliette Thorne unexpectedly inherits a sprawling estate, she expects decay and debts–not rooms that rearrange themselves, mirrors reflecting unfamiliar worlds, nor her husband’s ghost, wandering its infinite corridors. It was only curiosity–and an urge to escape her old life–that brought her to Thornewood Hall, but it’s the estate’s ancient and complex trust that unfortunately binds her there. Saddled with the expenses of an estate she can’t afford to run, and haunted by the ghost of a man she thought she’d left behind, Juliette determines to fix what she can control and find herself an exorcist.
Weston Darrow, a renowned occult expert in the city of Lorncliffe, isn’t the wizened scholar nor homely priest that Juliette expects to hire. He’s entirely too thin, too tired, too cool to her plight. Marred by terrible scars she can only assume came from the world war, Weston’s focus rests entirely with the mage veterans returning from the front, traumatized and bringing dangerous arcane currents home with them. There are hauntings enough in the city as a result, and he can’t spare the time to help Juliette with hers.
But after a wild-eyed, hysterical mage breaks into Thornewood Hall, claiming something wicked calls to her from within the estate, it isn’t long before Weston shows up on Juliette’s doorstep. Back in Lorncliffe, mages have begun to feel the same compulsion to reach the estate, or else be driven mad by their obsession. Weston intends to find the source of this call, and Juliette–wanting her own answers about this haunting–joins in his investigation of the manor’s ever-shifting rooms. Something has awoken in Thornewood Hall, and together the pair must seek out and silence the profane danger lurking in its labyrinthine depths.
